heteromerous lichens

Bot.: Lichens in which the same filaments so ramify as to constitute two distinct layers of ti ue, a comparatively thin, usually transparent, but close outer layer or cortex, and an inner, loose, hyphal layer called the medulla, inclosed by the former.
