The quality or state of being porous or of having pores; porousne ; spec if., that property of matter in consequence of which its particles are not in absolute contact, but are separated by pores or intervals; the opposite to density. Its sulphate and chloride, like those of quinine, exhibit a deep blue fluorescence when slightly acidulated. With concentrated nitric acid, it produces a characteristic red color.
