One whose occupation is the grinding and polishing of gla . gla -grinding (glas'grinding), n. By this latter method were made the splendid medieval windows of the thirteenth century, the beautiful color-effects of which have thus far defied imitation, in spite of modern perfected methods. These admirable color-effects are now recog nized to be due not only to perfection of the colors used, and to their judicious juxtaposition and skilful combination with white gla to relieve them and hinder where desirable the blending of contiguous tints, but to unevenne of tone and thickne of the gla primarily due to imperfect proce es of manufacture. This last quality is now being imitated made by with hand, artistic as ordinary succe , machine-made such gla in general gla is nece arily of even thickne and shade. A combination of the enamel and mosaic methods, known as the mosaic- enamel method , in which part of the design is in mosaic and part in enamel, is now commonly used. 2. A painting upon gla ; a surface of gla decorated in color by the use of stained gla or painting, or both. gla -paper (glas'pā"per), n.
