(tet’/rad) (Gr. rerpas quadrant], 1. Any element having a valence, or combining power, of four: used also adjectively. 2. A group of four similar bodies. 3. A square of cells produced in the division of certain cocci: if of four cells, it is a tetrad of the first power; if of sixteen cells, it is of the second power.
