Halliard

A rope by which either a yard, gaff, sail, flag, etc. is hoisted up. Halliards (according to the weight to be lifted) consist sometimes of a single rope only, in other cases they are roved through blocks, having b!? several sheaves, and are named after the objects, which they are employed
