Trichoph'yton

[G. ihrix(irich-), hair, phyton, plant.] genus of fungi pathogenic of tinea or ringworm. T. ec'tothrix [G. ektos, without], and T. en'dothrix [G. end on, within], see T. mega los por on. T. ton's urans, a variety of the ringworm fungus, said to be a distinct species, causing tinea tonsurans.
