A name contrived to expre more clearly the nature of what are called cryptogamic plants; it being the opinion of the author of the name that the mode of propagation among such plants was not hidden, but only of an unusual nature. It has been confined by De CandoUe to such as have ve els, as well as cellular ti ue, in their organisation. In this sense they are the same as ferns, lycopodiums, mo es, and their allies. ^' [s. 32]
