The American Dictionary and Cyclopedia · 1910 · p. 28
[Lat. sambuca, from Gr. sambyke.] Music : An ancient musical instrument; though applied sometimes to several musical instruments of different kinds, such as a lyre, a dulcimer, a triangular harp or trigon, and a large Asiatic harp, it seems to have been chiefly used as a term for the last named instrument. By some authors it has been identified with the large Egyptian harp.
