still commemorated Henry in David, * Thursday the ’ American (Thor’s-day). philosopher, was born in 1817, and was for several years a schoolmaster. In >845 he built his hut near Walden Pond, Concord, and lived there as a hermit for two years. Besides his delightful “ Walden ” he also wrote “ A Week on the Concord and Merrimac,” and several other books which were not published till after his death. He was a friend of Emerson.
