Machine to break larger lumps of ore or coal. Crushing Strength. Force per sq. inch nece ary, in crystalline material, to disintegrate it by pre ure; in ductile material to shorten and deform the specimen by 5 to 10 per cent in a short length. Usual values in los. per sq. inch: Pinewood, 5.400; oak, 6,500; brick, 2.000; cast-iron, 85,000 to 125,000; wrought iron, 33.000 to 36,000; steel, 150,000 to 330,000.
