A division or separate part of a general design; a design composed of different figures, disposed with symmetry, for ornament; as, the compart ment of a wall. "In the middle was a large compartment composed of grotesque work." - Curew. ( Ship - building .) Separate divisions of a ship's hull; as, water-tight compartments.
