Arapaima

(dr-a-pi'ma.) (Zool.) A genus of malacopterygious fishes, nearly allied to the Clupeidæ, and containing the largest known fresh-water fish in the world, being sometimes found 18 feet in length, in the Rio Negro, S. America. [s. 42]
