MERIANDRA

(Lat.), n. f. Mear-ia-aan(asn)'dra3. Fr.. meriandre. A genus of labiate shrubs of the Monardece, constituting Endlicher's Meriandrece (a subtribe of the Afenthoideae) and Lindley's Meriandridce (a tribe of the Menthece). [B, 42, 170 (o, 35).] M. benghalensis. Bengal sage, a cultivated species resembling Salvia offlcinalis. The leaves, which have a strong camphoraceous odor and taste, are used as an aromatic stimulant. [B, 180, 275 (a, 35).] M. strobili fer a.
