Harvard 1831; never in active busine ; lived abroad after 1817; studied comp with Pic chianti in Florence; composed, under name Teltord, ma , Miserere songs ( Here's a Health to King Charles etc ). Father prominent in mining and engineering affairs, received instruction m languages, and in music under Ma enet, in Paris, and tinder Grieg in Norway; conductor of the Philharmonic Society of Christiania and of the Musikvorein, Bergen; eumo to tho United States and beeuine (1910) a member of the faculty of the Pennsylvania College of Music, Philadelphia; compositions include three operas, symphony, piano concerto, orchestral works, piano pieces, songs and choruses, about 160 numbers in all.
