EARLY ENGLISH PIERS AND ARCH. (-ringz.) A ring (Westminster Abbey, A. D. 1250.) suspended from the ear, which is bored for the purpose, and is am ode of adorning the person which, since the remotest antiquity, has enjoyed so great and universal favor, that it would appear to be a very natural idea to attach such an ornament to the pendulous lobe of the ear.
