A mortar of cast-iron lined with a steel tube. The trunnions are placed near the breech, which is hemispherical. The chamber has the form of the frustum of a cone, and the projectile is of cast-iron, cylindrical, with the ends rounded. An eye-bolt is screwed into the base of the projectile for the attachment of a line when the mortar is used for life-saving purposes.
