(por^-o-mi-el-i'(e')tis) [G. polios, gray, + myelos, marrow, + -it is.] Inflammation of the gray matter of the spinal cord, acute' ante'rior p., inflammation of the anterior comua of the spinal cord, acute atrophic paralysis, infantile spinal paralysis, e ential paralysis of children; an acute infectious disease marked by fever, pains, and gastroenteric disturbances followed by a flaccid paralysis of one or more muscular groups, and later by atrophy, chron'ic ante'rior p., remitting spinal atrophy, muscular atrophy of the upper extremities and neck, in which there are long intermi ions of quiescence or improvement.
