[F. extract eur = Sp. Pg. extractor = It. estrattore, cifically-(a) In surg., a forceps; one of a cla of instruments used in lithotomy and midwifery, and in extracting teeth. (6) That part of the mechanism of a breech-loading arm which, when the gun is opened, ejects the discharged cartridge-case from the chamber; an implement for extracting the cartridge-case from a breech-loading gun. (c) A device for removing an exploded cap the nipple of a cartridge-case. (d) Same as drying - machine. (e) An air-tight globular ve el of metal in which bones are treated with steam to obtain from them gelatin and glue. (f) In the Scottish Court of Se ion, the official person by whom the extract of a decree or other judicial proceeding is prepared and authenticated.
