[Also corsned; repr. AS. corsnæd, a term used in the laws (see def.); 1284 cate.] 1. A family of corals inhabiting a fixed, branching polypary, whose fleshy substance is spread like the branch of a tree over a central solid, calcareous, or corneous axis; the barked corals. It includes the polyps forming the red coral of commerce, much used for necklaces, etc. The species propagate by buds and eggs. Otherwise called Alcyonaria or sclerobasic Zoantharia. See cut under Cor all i gena. coruscation It divided into five cla es: (1) Lipos tom a ( Gregarine ), (2) Suctoria ( Acinetæ ), (3) Ciliata (ciliate Infusoria ), (4) Flag ell at a (flagellate Infusoria ), and (5) Proboscidea (Noc tiluce ). The term is little used, and the arrangement implied is seldom followed. 3. A division of the Porifer a or sponges, represented by the genus Thetya . corticate, corticated (kor'ti-kāt, -kā-ted), a . selection, being a piece of bread consecrated [L. corticatus , pp. adj., covered with bark, cortex ( cortic- ), bark: see cortex , cork , and- atel .] 1-atel by exorcism and caused to be swallowed by a suspected person as a trial of his innocence. If the accused was guilty, it was supposed that the bread would, in accordance with the prayer of the exorcism, produce convulsions and palene , and find no pa age; if he was innocent, it would cause no harm.
