BOYNE

a river of Ireland, running into the Irish Channel, near which was fought a celebrated battle between the adherents of James II. and of of William III., in 1690; the latter proved victorious, the and James was obliged to flee to the Continent. The river rises in the B^ of Allen, and after a winding course of about 60 ndles, falls into the sea 4 miles E. by K. of Drogheda.
