lattice-bridge

(lat’is-brij), m. A bridge in which the web between the chords, or the combination of the main compre ion and tension members, is formed so as to resemble latticework. It is a frequent form of construction in Europe, where bridges of this kind have been built of more than 800 feet span. In these bridges the tendency to lateral deflection, due to the lightne of the web, is counteracted by making the tru es double and properly connected, thus forming a kind of openwork box-girder.
