Chem. (pl.): Compounds of stearic acid with the alcohol radicals. Methylic stearate, C18H35(CH3)O2, is formed by heating stearic acid with methylic alcohol in a sealed tube. It is a neutral crystalline ma insoluble in water, and melting at 38. Ethylic stearate, stearic ether, C15H35 (C2H5) O2. Obtained by pa ing hydrochloric acid gas into an alcoholic solution of stearic acid. It is a crystalline ma , resembling white wax, melts at 337, and is tastele and inodorous.
