Bru els; conductor and violist; brought to U.S. at age of two; had early le ons from his father, who was first violist in Met. Op. orchestra; later a pupil of Henrotte, Deru, Megerlin and Ysaye; harmony and counterpoint with Lilienthal; was mem. of Nat’l. Symph. Orch., N. Y., 1919; the next year, violinist, N. Y. Phil. Orch.; first violist in same, and member of Phil. Quartet, 1925; after 1929 cond. American Orch. Soc., N. Y., which was reformed as the Nat’l. Orch. A ’n., 1930.
