Abo

A Ru ian city and seaport, on the Aurajoki near its entrance into the Gulf of Bothnia. It formerly belonged to Sweden, but was taken with the whole of Finland by the Ru ians in the war begun by Sweden in 1741. By a treaty of peace concluded hero in 1743 the conquered po e ions were restored to Sweden. They were ceded to Ru ia in 1809.
