Ducking Stool

Plunging in water was a punishment among the ancient Germans and Franks for people of scandalous lives, and was common at Marseilles and Bordeaux till the Revolution. In England it occurs as a correction for common scolds. It is mentioned in Domesday Book, and lasted till the present century.
