TINCTURE

n. Ti^n^kfu^r. Lat., tinctura (from tingere, to wet), aer [Para cels us]. Fr., teinture, t. Ger., Tinctur, Tinktur. A pharmaceutical preparation made by di olving a drug in alcohol, especially by subjecting vegetable substances to the action of alcohol. Ammoniated t. A preparation made by digesting 1 Ib. of Socotrine aloes, 4 oz. each of rhubarb, angelica fruit, and confection of Damocrates, 2 each of elecampane, saffron, fennel, and prepared chalk, 1 oz. each of gentian, zedoary, cubebs, myrrh, camphor, and agaric, and 500 oz. of proof spirit for twelve hours, expre ing, adding 10 oz. of quinine sulphate, and filtering when this is di olved by aid of the water bath and the mixture cooled; used in obstinate cases of malarial poisoning.
