James . b. 1792; well known jockey on the Borders and at Car lisle and Penrith; kept a public house at Penrith; trained and rode for Mr. Ferguson in Ireland; rode Fire-away for the St. Leger in Blue Bonnett’s year 1842; had a pension on the Bentinck fund. d. from an overdose of laudanum at West Laith gate, Don caster 17 Feb. 1868.
