In Ecclesiastical matters, one of the five inferior orders in the Romish Church. In the Church of Ens land, a reader is a deacon appointed to do divine service In churches and chapels of which no one has the cure. There are also readers (priests) attached to various eleemosynary and other foundations. [s. 1046]
