(re-koil'.) [From L. re, back, and cul us, the fundament.) (Gun.) The retrograde movement of a piece of ordnance upon being fired: it is occasioned by the pre ure of the gas upon the foot of the bore, in the direction of the axis, being equal to that which acts upon the charge. [s. 757]
