[Eng. alumin; -ate.] Chem. The hydrogen in aluminium trihydrate can be replaced by an equivalent quantity of various metals; such compounds are called aluminates , as pota ium aluminate, Al2O3K20. Some occur native, as Spinell, an aluminate of magnesium; Gahnite, an aluminate of zinc. (See Watts's Dict . of Chem.) ǎl-um-in-if-er-ous, a.
