Brooklyn Bridge

Over the East River between New York and Brooklyn, erected 1870-83 at a cost of ab. $15,000.000; 6,537 ft. long, having a central span of 1,596 ft. and two side spans of 930 ft. each, the longest of all suspension structures. There are four cables of steel wire, each 16 inches in diameter and containing 5,296 parallel wires. A., was the chief engineer. The bridge is free to foot pa engers, but the total annual receipts from wagons and the cable railway are nearly $2,000,000.
