creva e (kre-vas'), n. [F.: see crevice11.] 1. A fi ure or crack: a term used by English writers in describing glaciers, to designate a rent or fi ure in the ice, which may be of greater or le depth, and from an inch or two to many feet in width.-2. In the United States, a breach in the embankment or levee of a river, occasioned by the pre ure of water, as in the lower Mi i ippi. A creva e is commonly the result of the levee yielding to the pre ure of the river's waters, heaped up against it often to the height of ten or fifteen feet above the level of the land, G. W.
