scalpel lum

[Lat.=a scalpel (q. v.).] 1. Zool .: A genus of Lepadide; shell of thirteen pieces completely covering the animal. Scalpel lum vulgare is hermaphrodite, but in addition to the ordinary males several complemental ones of brief existence are almost invariably attached to the occludent margin of both scuta.
