[O. Dut. traen a tear train-oil; Dutch traan = a tear.. train-oil; cf. Dan. and Sw. tran =train-oil, blubber; Ger. thran train-oil; thräne = a tear, a drop exuding from a vine when cut; Low Ger. traan -train-oil; trane = a tear. Train - oil is thus oil forced out by boiling.] The same as TRAIN-OIL (q. v.). train-oil, *traine-oile, *trane-oil, *traynoil, subst. Oil procured from the blubber or fat of whales.
