tallophylian

& s. [Lat. allophylus; Gr. ἀλλόφυλος ( allophulos ) = of another tribe: ἄλλος (allos) = another, and φυλή (phule) = a tribe.] A. As adj .: A term introduced by Prichard ( Nat . Hist . of Man , 2nd ed., pp. 185, 186) to characterise the nations or races of Europe and Asia not belonging to the Indo-European, the Syro-Arabian, or the Egyptian races. The term has all but fallen into disuse, having been superseded by Turanian (q.v.). B. As subst.: A member of any such race [A].
