MADISONVILLE

city and county seat of Hopkins co., Ky., 125 miles southwest of Louisville and served by the Kentucky Midland and Louisville and Nashville railroads. It is in the heart of a rich agricultural section, of which it is the natural market and shipping point. Coal and natural gas in the vicinity contribute to its prosperity. Its manufacturing plants include a tobacco factory, lumber and planing mills and flour mills. You sands of acres in the immediate vicinity are planted in tobacco, and the transformation of the raw leaf into finished products is one of the principal industries. There are excellent schools, churches, 4 banks and 3 newspapers. The electric light, waterworks and sewage systems are municipally owned. Pop. 1920, 5,030.
