Baptisia tinct or i a. Native of e. N. America. Indirect Cell Division (KARYOKINESIS). In this form the constriction of the cell plasm is preceded by the following changes in the nucleus. 1. The chromatic reticulum is transformed into a single filament (knäuel or mitom). 2. This shortens and thickens, presenting wreath or rosette forms, and breaks up into S or V-shaped loops. 3. The loops form a HELIOS (q. v.), and each loop splits into two. 4. The helios flattens into an aster, situated in the equator of a spindle, formed from the achromatic reticulum. These are the prophases (collectively, the anaphase): the proce is termed an akinesis. 5. The aster becomes a dyaster by the attraction of the halves of the loops to opposite poles along the spindle meridional fibers. This is the metaphase (met akinesis). 6. Each daughter nucleus is formed by the pa age of the daughter loops through the prophases in reverse order, which constitutes the kata phases (kat akinesis). There is much variation in this proce ; the above is only a general scheme.
