(sig'na-tur). i. The part of a prescription* containing the directions to the patient. 2. Some marking on, or the color or shape of, a plant or mineral, supposed to be symbolical or indicative of its therapeutic virtues, doctrine of sig'natures, the teaching that a signature is an indication of th^ therapeutic virtues of a plant or mineral.
