(di-ag-no' -sis). The distinguishing, fixation, or interpretntion of a disease from its symptoms. D., Differential, the qualitative distinguishing between two diseases of similar character, by comparative symptoms. D., Direct, the recognition of a disease from the existence of one or more signs or symptoms, independently of or in relation with other symptoms, or with age, sex, physical and mental characteristics, residence or occupation, or with the family history. D. by Exclusion, the recognition of a disease by excluding all other known conditions. D., Physical, the application of physical methods to the study of disease.
