Cedrus

(sēd'rūs.) (Bot.) The name under which the Cedar of Lebanon, and the Deodar or Him a lay an cedar, belonging to the genus Abies, are sometimes separated from other fir-trees. The Cedar of Lebanon, often alluded to in Scripture as an emblem of stability and prosperity, is remarkable for its grave beauty, longevity, magnitude, and the durability of its timber. The Deodar is also a magnificent tree, and is held in great veneration by the Hindoos. [s. 157]
