peritricha

[Pref. peri-, and Gr. thrix, (gen it. trichos )=a hair.] fresh water, by some authorities considered the Zool .: An order of Ciliata, inhabiting salt and most specialized group, a view in which Saville Kent does not coincide, for he thinks the Hypotricha should occupy the highest place. He enumerates eight families: Torquatellidæ, Dictyocystide, Act i no bolide, Halter i ide, Gyrocoride, Urceolari ide, and Ophryoscolecide, in which the animalcules are free-swimming; and Vorticellidæ, in which they are sedentary or attached. pě-rit-rich-an, subst. [Mod. Lat. peritrich ( a ); Eng. suff. -an.] Any individual of the order Peritricha (q. v.). pě-rit-rich-ous, adj . [Mod.
