Salaberry, Charles Michel d'Irumberry de

(1778-1829). Born at Beauport, near Quebec. Entered the British army; served for eleven years under General Robert Pre scott; and in 1794 took part in the capture of Martin i que. In 1809 served in Ireland; and in 1810 took part in the Walcheren expedition. In 1811 major and aide-de-camp to General Rotten burg in Canada. At the outbreak of the American War of 1812, promoted lieutenant-colonel, and rendered good service as commander of the Canadian Voltigeurs. On Oct. 26, 1813, defeated the American forces under General Hampton at Chateauguay, the outcome of this action being to compel the invaders to evacuate Lower Canada. For these services made a C. B.
