On shipboard, an officer who super intends the provisioning of the crew and pa engers, supplies the table, and takes charge of the liquors.Lord High Steward of the Crown, in England, formerly the principal officer of state; now the title borne by the chief officer of the royal household after the Lord Chamberlain.
