CARTER, 1801-1889. Founder of the London Art Journal, 1839, and its conductor till 1880; compiler of Book of Gems, British Ballads, Baronial Halls, and many more. He and his wife, ANNA M. (q.v.), together are said to have produced 340 volumes. Retrospect of a Long Life, 1883.
