Anther

(an'thur.) [Gr. ant heros, blooming.] (Bot.) That part of the stamen of a flower which is at the top of the filament; it is usually divided into two cavities, which are filled with pollen,minute grains that are discharged when ripe, and these falling upon the pistil impregnate the ovary. Anthers are generally yellow, that being the usual color of the pollen. [s. 35]
