STEREOSCOPE

an optical instrument invented by Wheat stone, which has the effect of giving to ordinary photographic pictures the appearance of solidity. In the instrument now in use two photographs of the same object are taken in the positions in which the person’s two eyes would be if he were observing the object from the position in which the camera is placed. These photographs are mounted on a card side by side and viewed through separate acute angled prisms.
