othonneæ

pl. [Mod. Lat. olhonn ( a ); Lat. fem. pl. adj. suff. -eœ.] Bot.: A sub-tribe of Cynareæ. tō-tho-scope, subst. [Gr. ōtheo to push, and skopeō to see, to observe.] Surgery: An instrument invented in 1851 by Czermak, for holding water round the eye to enable the interior to be seen. It has been superseded by the ophthalmoscope (q. v.).
