Dominant

(dom'e-nănt.) [From L. dominans, controlling.] (Mus.) The D. or sensible chord is that which is practised on the dominant or fifth of the key, and which introduces a perfect cadence. Every perfect major chord becomes a D. chord as soon as the seventh minor is added to it. [s. 297]
