Guaiacol

{gwi’-ak-ol) [S. Amer.], C-H802. Methyl-pyrocatechin, a substance obtained from beechwood creosote and also, synthetically, from pyrocatechin and methyl-sulphuric acid. It is used as a substitute for creosote in tuberculosis in doses of n\iij-v (0.19—0.32); externally it has been employed as an antipyretic, 20-40 drops being painted on the skin. 302
