(Oxford, 1853), bishop of St. Andrew's, Dunkeld, and Dunblane, Episcopal Church in Scotland; b. at Booking, Eng., Aug. 22, 1806; was a student of Christ Church College, Oxford; took the prize for Latin verse 1827, and for the Latin e ay 1831 graduated B.A. (first-cla cla ics) 1830, M.A. 1832; was ordained deacon 1834, priest 1840; was a private tutor for several years, and had under his instruction both Mr. Gladstone and Cardinal Manning; from 1835 to 1845, second master of Winchester College; from 1847 to 1854, warden of Trinity College, Glen almond, Perth shire; and in 1853 was consecrated bishop. He was a member of New-Testament Company of Bible Revisers.
